- You can quickly and easily apply for child support online by creating an account below. No office visit is required. The application process should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. If needed, you can save your application to complete at a later time. The cost to apply for child support services is only $6 .
- You will need to provide identifying information about you, the other parent and the child(ren) for whom you are filing. Please click here for a list of items you may need to complete your application. This information will be used to complete a child support application, and file a legal complaint and accompanying documents with the Family Court. Once you submit your application, the complaint will be filed and a child support case will be created. A copy of the application, legal complaint and accompanying documents will also be available to download for your records. You can then expect to receive a notice informing you of the date of the child support court hearing in the mail within 10 business days.
Who can apply online?
Any parent or person seeking to establish paternity and/or a child support order, including medical support.
Who cannot apply online?
You cannot apply online if:
You are currently receiving or previously received Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and/or Medicaid for the child(ren) you are applying for;
- If you are currently receiving TANF and/or Medicaid for the child(ren) you are applying for, please reach out to the county office where you receive assistance for further information. You may also call the New Jersey Family Support Services Center at 1-877-NJKiDS1.
- If you previously received TANF and/or Medicaid for the child(ren) you are applying for, please reach out to the New Jersey Family Support Services Center at 1-877-NJKiDS1 for further information on how to reopen your case.
Your child is currently in an out-of-home placement (foster care) through the Department of Children and Families;
- Please reach out to the Child Protection & Permanency (CP&P) Office that is managing your case for further information. You may also call the New Jersey Family Support Services Center at 1-877-NJKiDS1.
The child(ren) does not reside with you a majority of the time;
- If you would like to apply for services, please contact the New Jersey Family Support Services Center at 1-877-NJKiDS1.
You or the other parent you’re filing this application against reside outside of New Jersey;
- Please reach out to the child support agency in your state for instructions on how to file for support. If you reside in New Jersey, please call the New Jersey Family Support Services Center at 1-877-NJKiDS1 for further information.
You do not know the other parent’s address;
- The location of the other parent is required when filing a complaint with the court. Please contact the county welfare agency in your county to request locate services. County welfare agencies may be found on our website here.
There is an open or closed case between you and the other parent with the Child Support Program in New Jersey;
- Please call the New Jersey Family Support Services Center at 1-877-NJKiDS1 for further information.
There are any pending or existing court actions to establish or enforce support for your child(ren) in New Jersey or any other state;
- You must reach out to the state child support agency where your action is pending or existing.
